APEX Para Athletics | Para Wheelchair Basketball : Who We Are
-
We don’t just modify the rules. We master the sport.
At APEX, we treat wheelchair basketball as the elite, physical, and highly strategic team sport that it is. The court and the hoops are exactly the same height as the standing game, meaning our training focuses on high-level execution, speed, and spatial awareness. Our approach centers on three core pillars:
Chair Control & Biomechanics: A player's chair is an extension of their body. We break down the mechanics of explosive pushing, sharp-angled cutting, and finding balance in the seat to master accurate shooting from a seated position.
Tactical Team Chemistry: Wheelchair basketball is a beautifully complex game of angles, screens, and picking. We coach the elite tactical elements of the sport—from mastering the 14-point classification system on the court to executing seamless fast breaks and defensive presses.
A Complete Support System: From fitting custom multi-sport and basketball-specific chairs to fine-tuning hand rim grips and straps, we ensure our athletes are dialed in. We blend elite on-court coaching with strength, conditioning, and mental grit.
-
These are the core values that guide us every time we roll onto the hardwood:
The Summit Mentality: We play to win, and we train to grow. We don’t just focus on participation; we chase athletic excellence because we know the incredible talent, speed, and competitive fire our players possess.
Inclusion by Design: Our courts are built on the foundational rule that everyone belongs. We design our training blocks so that players of all classifications and skill levels push one another, elevate the team, and find their rhythm from day one.
Relentless Grit: Basketball is a game of contact, collisions, and hustle. We celebrate the resilience it takes to fight for a loose ball, push through a grueling defensive shift, and leave everything on the court.
Climbing Together: No championship or personal best is won alone. Every coach drawing up a baseline play, every volunteer keeping stats, and every teammate setting a back-screen is an essential piece of the APEX family.
-
The drive to compete doesn't change when you change the game. APEX Para Athletics expanded into wheelchair basketball because we saw an incredible community of hoopers who wanted more than just a recreational outlet—they wanted to play at a high level. We noticed that while the passion for the game was everywhere, access to elite coaching, tactical development, and equipment was hard to come by.
We launched our basketball program to tear down those barriers. What started as a vision to get players on the court has grown into a fast-paced, high-intensity basketball community where athletic precision meets relentless team chemistry. Today, we are on the hardwood with a unified mission: to ensure that every player who wants to push their limits has the coaching, the equipment, and the team behind them to dominate the court.
