APEX Para Athletics | Para Strength & Conditioning: Who We Are
-
We don’t just modify standard exercises. We engineer elite athletic performance.
At APEX, we don't believe in a one-size-fits-all workout. Every adaptive athlete possesses a distinct physical profile, requiring a deeply customized approach to movement, resistance, and energy systems. Our training methodology is anchored by three core pillars:
Adaptive Biomechanics & Adaptation: We look closely at how each athlete interacts with gravity and resistance. Whether it’s designing seated rowing variations for optimal core engagement, creating custom gripping solutions for quadriplegic athletes, or engineering single-leg power progressions, we make the weight room completely work for you.
Injury Prevention & Longevity: For adaptive athletes, everyday mobility and sports performance place a massive load on specific joints—like the shoulders of wheelchair users or the hips of blade runners. Our programming prioritizes structural balance, joint health, and core stability to keep you healthy, resilient, and performing at your peak over the long haul.
A High-Performance Training Culture: We fuse sports science with an elite team dynamic. Our strength coaches work closely with our sport-specific track, basketball, and alpine coaches to ensure your gym work transfers directly to faster times on the track, sharper cuts on the court, and tighter lines on the mountain.
-
These are the core values that drive us every time we step onto the weight room floor:
The Summit Mentality: We push for progress, not just participation. We don't lower the bar for adaptive athletes—we teach you how to lift it. We hold our athletes to elite standards because we know the strength they are truly capable of building.
Inclusion by Design: Our weight room is a space where barriers don’t exist. From wheelchair-accessible cable columns to coaches trained in specialized spotting techniques, everything is built from day one to ensure you can train without limitations.
Relentless Grit: Strength is earned in the unglamorous hours. We celebrate the discipline of showing up for the extra set, pushing through the final rep, and embracing the daily grind required to transform your body.
Climbing Together: Real power multiplies when we lift each other up. Every coach shouting encouragement during a heavy lift, every volunteer spotting a bench press, and every athlete cheering on a teammate's personal record is the heartbeat of the APEX family.
-
The foundation of every podium finish is built in the weight room. APEX Para Athletics launched our strength and conditioning program because we believe that adaptive athletes deserve access to the exact same high-level, evidence-based physical preparation as any Olympic competitor. We saw a gap in traditional fitness spaces: gyms built without accessibility in mind, and trainers who simply didn’t understand how to safely push and progress a body with unique mechanics, spinal cord injuries, or amputations.
We built this program to be the engine behind our athletes' success. What started as a goal to improve basic fitness has evolved into a premier strength and conditioning hub where sports science meets grit. Today, we are in the gym with a clear mission: to ensure that every adaptive athlete has the specialized coaching, accessible equipment, and target programming they need to build explosive power, prevent injury, and unlock their true physical potential.
